Police in Leamington are investigating a large number of thefts which took place across the town on Tuesday night – and a local business which was one of those targeted is appealing for other victims to come forward to help catch the offenders.

A message posted on the Leamington Police Facebook page yesterday (Wednesday May 15) says: “We are aware of a large number of theft incidents which have occurred across the town overnight.

“Please be assured we are visiting the residents who have reported incidents and have been to as many as we are able at this time, but will continue to do so.

“We are urging victims who haven't already done so to report incidents to us on 101 as soon as possible and anyone who has evidence of offences to please forward it onto [email protected] .”

The Enchanted Tea Room café in Leamington has also posted about the thefts.

On its Facebook page, the business has said: “Get sharing.

“Our van was broken into last night [Tuesday May 14] at 2.46am.

“[Through] the power of Facebook I’ve already got timeline of other break-ins and series of events.

“The tool box left on my drive was from a Pound Lane break-in at around 1am and here’s where they hit last night:

“Lillington, Cubbington Road, Pound lane, Rugby Road, Weston-under-Wetherley, Kingsway, Windmill Hill, Westlea Road and Taylor Avenue.

"All were carried out by the same scumbags in joggers and t-shirts in a white car.”

Other victims have responded to the business’s post and posted video footage and images of the thefts being carried out by a gang in a white car on the same night.

Leamington Police have given some crime prevention advice while officers investigate the incidents.

They have said: “We know you’ve worked hard for your tools.

"Please help us to help you keep them secure by following these tips:

“If you can, try to park your van with the back to a wall – this makes life much harder for thieves.

“If you have to leave tools in a van overnight, it's a good idea to mark them clearly with your name/company name and address using paint pens and seal with a clear lacquer spray.

“Alternatively, you can use a variety of other property marking systems. Items that are clearly marked are less desirable and more difficult to sell on.

“Consider using a lockable cabinet within your van to store tools – a number of security rated products are available.”
